John B Floyd Skaggs was born 18 May 1853 in the historical Rocky Station district of Lee County, Virginia. It was the area across the Wallen Creek from the town of Pennington Gap. His parents were Jeremiah and Mary Catherine Skaggs and he had five sisters. John B Floyd Skaggs died in the same area 23 August 1929. The Skaggs Y-DNA project has a gap in the testing that can be filled by male descendants of John B Floyd Skaggs.
John B Floyd Skaggs was named after Virginia governor John B Floyd and was a documented descendant of Zachariah Skaggs who died in Russell County, Virginia in 1818. The Skaggs Y-DNA project would like to determine how his descendants fit in the Skaggs family. Are they related to the Long Hunters? Could they be related to Old Peter Skaggs? Are these descendants originally from Maryland? We don't know because we don't have any test results from this Skaggs family line and historical records can't seem to help with these types of questions that go back to colonial times.
We know John B Floyd Skaggs had sons from two wives: 1) Mary Andis who died in 1878 and 2) Eveline Howard who died in 1936. The sons were: Charles Albert Skaggs was born in 1877, Erastus Elmer in 1881, John Henry in 1882, twins Romulus and Remus in 1885, William Chadwell Skaggs in 1888, Grover Cleveland Skaggs in 1890, Marvin Lucian in 1897, Jesse Milton in 1902 and Dr. Virgil Skaggs in 1906. We should have a bunch of male descendants of these guys available to Y-DNA test so I'm confident we can determine where this branch of the Skaggs family fits.
