I was alerted recently to a large storehouse of information about the James Scaggs married to Susanna. This James Scaggs is frequently confused with the James married to Rachel who was father of the Longhunters.
Ida Lancaster's book Skaggs: Tangled Roots Vol. 1 contains transcriptions of old deeds, church membership lists, court documents etc. from when James and Susanna lived in the New River area of Virginia and in East Tennessee and Warren County, Kentucky, beginning on page 152 through 175. This includes photocopies of documents James signed with his "funny E" mark described by Ida Lancaster. It's an extremely valuable resources for researchers of the James and Susanna line and all you need to do is go to a LDS Family History Center and click on the "Skaggs: Tangled Roots Vol. 1" link under "Skaggs Genealogical Research" on the Old Peter Skaggs web site and it's yours.
Peter Skaggs is a common ancestor for many Skaggs, Scaggs and Skeggs families throughout the United States. This site exists as a single point of contact to encourage researchers to work together to uncover his place in their family histories.
