The Scaggs Family of Chews Folly

In a previous post I discussed the James Scaggs family that owned the farm “Chews Folly” in Prince George’s County, Maryland in the early 1800s.  The parents of this James Scaggs were Richard Scaggs and Sarah Selby.  I believe this Richard Scaggs was the same Richard born in Kent County, Maryland in 1724, the younger brother of the John Scaggs that supposedly married Ruth Elkins.  The descendants of James Scaggs who inherited “Chews Folly” over the years are listed below the fold.

Thread of ownership of “Chews Folly”:

Richard Scaggs (1724-?), husband of Sarah Selby Scaggs
James Scaggs (1765-1822, son of Richard Scaggs
Isaac Pinkney Scaggs (1803-1872), son of James Scaggs
George Larrick Scaggs (1847-1910), son of Isaac Pinkney Scaggs
Charles A. Scaggs (1857-1945), cousin of George Larrick Scaggs
Minnie B. Scaggs Gates (1883-1977), daughter of Charles A. Scaggs

This is the best preserved habitation of a single residence in Scaggs family history.  The Scaggs family occupied “Chews Folly” from the time Sarah Selby Scaggs inherited it from her father in 1733, as a minor with her older brother Samuel Selby as guardian, and subsequently married Richard Scaggs c. 1750 up to the early 1970s when it was reported sold by a Gates descendant.

It would be great to have male Scaggs descendants from this line take the Y-line DNA test in the Skaggs DNA project to compare with other Scaggs to see if they have the same ancestoral line.  Also, female descendants from this family line can take an Autosomal DNA test to see if they match any cousins.
