This is the
best preserved habitation of a single residence in Scaggs family history. The Scaggs family occupied “Chews Folly” from
the time Sarah Selby Scaggs inherited it from her father in 1733, as a minor
with her older brother Samuel Selby as guardian, and subsequently married
Richard Scaggs c. 1750 up to the early 1970s when it was reported sold by a
Gates descendant.
