The 1787 Montgomery County, Virginia Personal Property Tax List B

The 1787 Montgomery County Virginia personal property tax list was in three sections: List A, List B and List C.  I listed interesting taxpayers from List A in a previous post.  The following are more taxpayers from List B.
Interesting List B Taxpayers

Richard Elkins - Baptist preacher who was supposed to be the brother of Ruth Elkins.

Matthias Harman - Long hunter, explorer and founder of Harman's Station in Eastern Kentucky with fellow Long Hunters Charles and Henry Skaggs.  It was Harman's Station where Jenny Wiley was rescued from the Indians by Henry Skaggs.

Jacob Kettering - The supposedly "Tory" Jacob, brother to Michael and cousin to Stophel.  Last name also known as Catron.

Michael Kettering - Cousin to Stophel and brother to Jacob the Tory.

William Scraggs - I am not sure who this William is.  It will be interesting to find out.

  1. I would not spend much time on that William Scraggs. He was a William Scruggs from the Scruggs, not the Skaggs family.

    1. You're right. Thanks. I won't waste time going down that rabbit hole.
