The 1787 Montgomery County Virginia personal property tax list was in three sections: List A, List B and List C. I listed interesting taxpayers from List A in a previous post and from List B in this post. The following are more taxpayers from List C.
List C might be called the Kettering list, since all the interesting taxpayers in it were Ketterings:
Jacob the Patriot, Jacob, Adam, Peter, Stophel and Lawrence all appear on this page. I think the Jacob and Stophel enumerated together on March 20 were Stophel and his son Jacob the Patriot. By process of elimination the other Jacob was some younger relative.
We know three Ketterings (Catrons) who were originally from this family but were not in Virginia in 1787. Francis, Peter and Philip Catron all signed the Cumberland Compact in 1780 in what is today Nashville, Tennessee.
Peter Skaggs is a common ancestor for many Skaggs, Scaggs and Skeggs families throughout the United States. This site exists as a single point of contact to encourage researchers to work together to uncover his place in their family histories.
