Famous Skaggs: Calvin Skaggs

Calvin Skaggs is the President of Lumiere Productions, a documentary production company in New York City.  He has directed or produced more than 30 films for cinema and television.  He's a descendant of one of the Long Hunters, as shown below the fold.

Calvin Skaggs was born 29 June 1937 in Perryville, Missouri, the son of Roy Raymond Skaggs and Ruby Hand.  His films have screened at the Venice and Sundance film festivals.  His work as a producer has been featured on PBS with the American Playhouse series in the 1980s, also his work has been on the Discovery Channel and HBO.

Calvin graduated from Henderson State University in 1957, received his Master of Arts from Duke University in 1959 and his Ph.D. from Duke in 1966.  He was professor of English and Cinema at Drew University in  Madison, New Jersey from 1962-1975.
