Where was "Horse Pasture?"

William Skaggs, the eldest son of James "The Long Hunter" Skaggs applied for a military pension in 1832 for service during the American Revolution.  In that pension application William stated that he was born in North Carolina.  "...the said Skaggs further states that he was born in the state of North Carolina the County he does not remember; it was near a place called the horse pasture as he learned from his mother..."  Where was Horse Pasture?

We start looking for Horse Pasture in the state of North Carolina, as William declared in his pension attestation.  The Horsepasture River is an 18.1 mile long scenic river in North and South Carolina.

It's located on the border between North and South Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains.

Could this be the "Horse Pasture" we're looking for?  Perhaps, but I have another candidate in another state.  There is also a Horse Pasture, Virginia located in present-day Henry County near the North Carolina state line.  Henry County also contains Horse Pasture Creek.

Horse Pasture, Virginia was in Halifax County in 1757 when William Skaggs was born.  The Skaggs family had a presence in Halifax County around that time so it's possible that William's father, James Skaggs (the Long Hunter) might have lived there.

Both of these locations are possible given what we know about the migration patterns of Skaggs, however, at this point I'm leaning toward Horse Pasture, Virginia.

UPDATE: A reader sent the clip below from a Wyatt family genealogy.  It claims that Leatherwood Creek, where John Scaggs, the Elkins and Archibald Thompson lived, was near Horsepasture.
