Updating the Skaggs Y-DNA Project in Family Tree DNA

I like to occasionally provide an update about the Skaggs Y-DNA project that is being managed on Family Tree DNA.  Usually I blend the DNA test results with the genealogy work that's been done to create several Skaggs family groups.  This time I will "follow the science" by using the Family Tree DNA haplogroup chart to create the Skaggs family groups and fill in each family group with the known genealogy of only the test participants involved.

R1a Skaggs Family

You can see from the flags to the right of the diagram that the American Skaggs family all descends from R-BY101522, called Unknown Common Ancestor 1 (UCA1) since we don't know who he was.  He was likely from Ireland or Britain and never immigrated to America.  Notice he was a descendant of R-BY30722, a Skeig ancestor who was a common ancestor to both the American Skaggs family and the Manx Keig family R-Y133827 (whose flag is red with three yellow legs running in a circle).  The Manx Keigs think this split between the two families happened when the Skaggs left the Isle of Man around the mid-1300s.  But let's keep "following the science" and we see the Skaggs family branches into two, R-FT6584, called UCA2 and R-FT14580 which we know are the Maryland Eastern Shore Scaggs because we have two testers from that family who tested as R-FT14580.  These two families look like two separate immigrants:

R-FT14580: Maryland Eastern Shore and later Ohio

R-FT6584: Virginia Northern Neck, Southern Maryland, Western Maryland, Valley of Virginia and later Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas

In future posts, I'll keep "following the science" and add the known genealogies of the testers in each of these groups.  If you're a Skaggs and interested in participating in the Skaggs Y-DNA project just go to my profile and click the email link to send me a message.
