Intruder alert! Intruder alert! Our Y-DNA testing project has tested multiple descendants of Charles Scaggs, one of the intruders on Indian land in Mississippi Territory at Sims Settlement in the early 1800s. You can read the history of how the President ordered the Army to beat the stuffing out of these intruders to drive them off Indian land back to Tennessee where they belonged.
We're very confident that Charles Scaggs was one of three brothers born in Maryland who left home to seek their fortune after their mother squandered their inheritance. Charles appears to show up in South Carolina before the American Revolution, then migrated to eastern Tennessee and later to the Mississippi Territory. This family group includes the Safeway Skaggs, a famous Skaggs family that founded Safeway stores and Osco Drugs. The famous musician Boz Scaggs is also in this group.
You can see from the diagram above that R-FT12801 is a different family group from the R-BY44771 that contains the Skaggs Long Hunters and Old Peter Skaggs. However, both these groups are related through their ancestor group R-FT6584.
